The isolation of Red Fluorescent proteins have opened up a broader color spectrum for use in research. These proteins can be fused with a wide variety of proteins at either the N- or C-terminus, and have been expressed as fluorescent markers in most cell types. These markers can be used as noninvasive markers in both living organisms and cells.
