Anti-NOD1/CARD4 Antibody, clone 021

NOD1/CARD4, also known as Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 1, or Caspase recruitment domain-containing protein 4, and encoded by the gene NOD1/CARD4, is an important apoptosis mediating protein that enhances caspase-9-mediated apoptosis. NOD1/CARD4 also mediates cellular responsiveness to intracellular bacterial LPS and forms an intracellular sensing system along with another protein called ARHGEF2 for the detection of microbial effectors during cell invasion by pathogens. NOD1/CARD4 is a homodimer that is found in the cytoplasm but also associated with the cell membrane in particular cells such as polarized epithelial cells. NOD1/CARD4 is expressed in many tissues including heart, skeletal muscle, and pancreas. As part of the innate immune system NOD1/CARD4 is part of a family of proteins that are responsible for the initial response of an organism to potentially harmful stressors, pathogens or tissue injury, and accordingly plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of many inflammatory processes, including some cardiovascular diseases.
