Gene Information
human ... CD200(4345)
General description
OX-2 membrane glycoprotein (UniProt: P41217; also known as CD200) is encoded by the CD200 (also known as MOX1, MOX2, My033) gene (Gene ID: 4345) in human. CD200 is a widely expressed, single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein that is synthesized with a signal peptide (aa 1-30), which is subsequently cleaved off to produce the mature protein that contains an extracellular domain (aa 31-232), a transmembrane domain (aa 233-359), and a cytoplasmic domain (aa 260-278). It also contains one V-type Ig-like domain (aa 31-141) and one C2-type Ig-like domain (aa 142-232). It is widely expressed on a broad range of cells including lymphoid cells, neurons, and endothelium. It interacts with CD200R, an immunoglobulin superfamily inhibitory receptor that is expressed primarily on myeloid/monocyte lineage cells and has a suppressive effect on T cell-mediated immune response. CD200 also serves as a pani-slet marker of pancreatic endocrine cells, including insulin-expressing β- cells, but does not recognize exocrine cells. Its levels are reported to be elevated in pancreatic β cells following SARS-CoV-2 infection and this infection is strictly dependent on ACE2 receptor. Three isoforms of CD200 have been described that are produced by alternative splicing. (Ref.: van der Heide, V., et al. (2022). Cell Rep. 38(11); 110508; Dorfman, DM., and Shahsafaei, A. (2010). Am.
