General description
HMMNI is a major metabolite of nitroimidazole drug, dimetridazole (DMZ).
HMMNI is a hydroxy metabolite of nitroimidazole antibiotics, belonging to a class of veterinary drugs with therapeutic applications in the treatment and prevention of certain bacterial and protozoal diseases in poultry and swine.
Application
HMMNI may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in:
- Different matrices of swine using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS/MS).
- Biological & environmental matrices using liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (LC-UV).
HMMNI may be used as a reference standard for the determination of HMMNI in porcine liver using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

A study was conducted to monitor the elimination of dimetridazole (DMZ) and its major metabolite 2-hydroxymethyl-1-methyl-5-nitroimidazole (HMMNI) in swine plasma and tissue, using a liquid chromatographic method with electrochemical detector sensitive to 0.5 ppb.
