General description
Perylene belongs to the class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It is a hydrophobic fluorescent probe used for imaging lipid bilayer membranes.
Application
Perylene may be used as an analytical standard along with a mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to determine the spatial distribution and sources of PAHs in surface sediments of rivers. It may also be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in water samples using spectrofluorimetric technique.
