General description
A unit of SRM 3168a contains five sealed borosilicate glass ampoules, each containing 10 mL of an acidified aqueous solution. This solution is gravimetrically prepared to contain a known mass fraction of zinc.

Features and Benefits
- The certified value of the SRM was determined by calculating the mass fraction values, obtained through two methods:
- The gravimetric preparation method using high-purity zinc metal, assayed by NIST.
- Analysis conducted by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES).
- The certified value can be traced metrologically to the mass fraction′s derived SI unit, which is milligrams per gram.
- The NIST certificate is provided with expiration certificate, storage, handling, use, and maintenance instructions.
