一般描述

甜菜碱（三甲基甘氨酸） 是调节渗透情况的保护剂，作用比脯氨酸更有效。 由胆碱形成。甜菜碱通常存在于谷物、菠菜、甜菜、西兰花、贝类和海藻中。

应用

甜菜碱盐酸盐用作 HEPES 或二甲基胂酸盐缓冲液中的固定剂成分，提高对人类精子超微结构形态的保存效果。

生化/生理作用

甜菜碱盐酸盐可降低乙醇刺激引起的肝毒性。
胆碱的氧化代谢的终产物，甜菜碱是一般的甲基供体，特别是在甲硫氨酸生物合成的次要途径中。它用于治疗高胱氨酸尿症，这是甲硫氨酸生物合成的主要途径中的缺陷。
