天蚕素A已作为一种抗菌肽（AMP）被用于：
  • 检测其对乳腺癌（MDA-MB-231）和人间皮瘤（M14K）细胞系的细胞毒性作用
  • 在针对大肠杆菌的超灵敏发射扩散测定中用于检测大蜡螟蛋白24和apolipophorin III的作用
  • 在针对光杆状菌变种的灵敏度测定中用于检测最小抑制浓度（MIC）

生化/生理作用

天蚕素A可与细胞膜发生相互作用，使其对电解质具有渗透性。因此，天蚕素A在肝细胞癌和淋巴瘤中有助于细胞溶解并最终导致细胞死亡。在转基因水稻中的这种合成型天蚕素A具有抗细菌和真菌病原体的作用。
