The cyclin B1 (CCNB1) gene is mapped to human chromosome 5q13.2. The gene codes for a 62kDa protein containing a classical cyclin box domain. CCNB1 shuttles between the nucleus and cytoplasm until prophase begins. It is a member of the cyclin family and is expressed at low levels in normal cells.

Thus, this protein can be considered as a potent target for cancer vaccines. In addition, CCNB1 also serves as a prognostic biomarker for estrogen-receptor-positive (ER⁺) breast cancer.
