Mouse brain tumour
Established in 1974 from a mouse brain neoplasm tumour induced by nitrosoethylurea, possess many properties characteristic of smooth muscle. Since then it has been suggested that BC3H1 is a skeletal line of ectodermal origin that is defective for commitment to terminal differentiation. The two distinct morphologies typical of this cell line are large spheroid cells and smooth-muscle-like cells. The fusiform is the more common.
