ZNF175 (zinc finger protein 175) has an ability to supress the Tat-induced viral LTR (long terminal repeat) promoter activity during HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)-1 replication. It suppresses the cellular response of several chemokine receptors. Upregulated expression of the protein has been reported in U937 cells which directly plays an important role in neurotrophin production and neuronal survival. It exhibits an antiretroviral property which has an impact on the accumulation of processing products, in the cytoplasm of perivascular brain macrophages, in advanced HIV encephalitis cases.
