CCT2 (chaperonin containing TCP1, subunit 2) gene encodes a molecular chaperone that is a subunit of the chaperonin containing TCP1 complex (CCT). This complex is also called as TCP1 ring complex (TRiC), and contains two identical stacked rings. These rings are composed of eight different proteins.

The TCP1 ring complex (TRiC) is involved in the assembly of BBSome, a complex that functions in transportation of vesicles to the cilia. The TCP-1 complex mediates folding of proteins including actin, tubulin, and cell cycle regulators.
