Pre-B-cell leukemia transcription factor 1 is a protein encoded by the PBX1 gene in humans. It acts as a biological candidate gene for type 2 diabetes at the 1q21-q24 susceptibility locus. The PBX1 homeodomain (PBX-HD) binds to DNA with Hox transcription factors and helps in regulating gene expression during vertebrate development.
