Translation initiation factor eIF-2B subunit beta is a protein encoded by the EIF2B2 gene in humans. It is referred as EIF2B and EIF-2Bbeta. The gene is a five-subunit complex that catalyzes guanine nucleotide exchange on eIF2. It is involved in protein synthesis and regulation under cellular stresses. Mutation in this gene causes CACH syndrome (Childhood Ataxia with Central nervous system Hypomyelination) or VWM (Vanishing White Matter).
