Calcineurin homologous protein 1 (CHP1) is a myristoylated EF-hand Ca(2+)-binding protein. Its expression is localized to the plasma membrane, golgi apparatus, and the nucleus. It possesses similarity with calcineurin B and calmodulin.

Calcineurin homologous protein 1 (CHP1) is involved with various cellular processes such as regulation of cell trafficking of secretory vesicles, T cell stimulation, including the Na-H exchanger expression and transport. In the nucleus, it directly binds to the upstream binding factor (UBF), a DNA-binding protein, to regulate ribosomal RNA synthesis. CHP1 functions as a cofactor during Na⁺/H⁺ exchanger 1 (NHE1) exchange activity. NHE1 exchange activity is highly essential to maintain intracellular pH, Na⁺ content, and cell volume.
