IGF2 (insulin-like growth factor 2) gene encodes a protein belonging to the insulin family of polypeptide growth factors. It is involved in growth and development, and cell cycle progression. Its knock-down is found to promote apoptosis. Overexpression of this protein may serve as a molecular marker of adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). The gene is localized to human chromosome 11p15.5 and epigenetic changes of DNA hypomethylation at this locus causes Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS).
