The gene DPCR1 (diffuse panbronchiolitis critical region 1), located in the major histocompatibility complex class I, encodes a 235-amino acid protein that shares homology with the mucin-like domain of sperm multiple-domain transmembrane protein called zonadhesin, which has the ability to bind to sperm zona pellucida. The gene spans a length of 2.5kb and is also referred to as C6orf37 (Chromosome 6 open reading frame 37). It is predominantly expressed in lung, kidney, and testis.

The gene DPCR1 (diffuse panbronchiolitis critical region 1) encodes a protein whose function is yet to be characterized. This gene serves as a genetic marker for diffuse panbronchiolitis, a bronchiolar disease characterized by sinobronchial infection and diffuse bilateral micronodular pulmonary lesions.
