General description
Synaptojanin 2 (SYNJ2) codes for 5′-inositol lipid phosphatase synaptojanin 2. It is specifically expressed in nerve terminals and differentially expressed in hippocampal subregions of the non-human primate marmoset.SYNJ2 has a proline-rich domain (PRD) and the C-terminal domain of SYNJ2 has a Rac1-binding domain. This gene is located on human chromosome 6q25.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Synaptojanin 2 (SYNJ2) is a phosphatidylinositol (PI) phosphatase that regulates clathrin-mediated endocytosis and tumor cell invadopodia formation and invasion. The proline-rich domain of SYNJ2 helps in binding to SH3 domain-containing proteins.
