DEAH-box helicase 36 (DHX36) modulates p53 pre-mRNA 3′-end processing, following UV induced DNA damage. It functions as a critical molecule for retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) signalling, by regulating double-stranded RNA (dsRNA)-dependent protein kinase (PKR) activation, that is required for the formation of antiviral stress granule (avSG). It inhibits the expression of transcription factor paired-like homeodomain 1 (PITX1). It may be associated with spermatogenesis, sex development and male reproduction.

DEAH-box helicase 36 (DHX36) is a RNA helicase enzyme. The protein belongs to the DEAH (aspartic acid, glumatic Acid, alanine, histidine)-box RNA helicase family. It is expressed in adult testis. The gene is located on human chromosome 3q25.2.
