SLC38A7 (solute carrier family 38 member 7) is a sodium-coupled amino acid transporter, expressed at high level in liver. It is also expressed in glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons in the brain. SLC38A7 belongs to the SLC38 family. SLC38A7 codes for sodium-coupled neutral amino acid transporter 7 (SNAT7). This gene is located on human chromosome 16q.

Sodium coupled neutral amino acid transporter 7 (SNAT7), encoded by SLC38A7 (solute carrier family 38 member 7) acts as a lysosomal transporter for glutamine and asparagine. SLC38A7 may support the glutamate neurotransmitter pool in the brain by glutamine-glutamate cycle.
