General description

Cholinergic receptor nicotinic β 1 subunit (CHRNB1) is predominantly expressed in muscles. It is also reported to be expressed in the brain, lungs and adrenal glands. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 17p13.1.

Immunogen

denatured nicotinic acetylcholine receptors from the electric eel Torpedo.

Monoclonal Anti-Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor (β1 subunit) antibody produced in rat has been used in immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lack of expression of cholinergic receptor nicotinic β 1 subunit (CHRNB1) has been linked to weak channel activity post agonist binding. Mutation in the gene encoding the protein has been associated with congenital myasthenic syndrome.
Recognizes an epitope within amino acids 360-410 of the muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, β1 subunit. Binds native and denatured β1.

Physical form

Solution in 10 mM phosphate buffered saline, containing 10 mM sodium azide.
