We have investigated the effect of the locust myosuppressin, SchistoFLRFamide, on the activity of amylase and alpha-glucosidase in the midgut of 2-week old male locusts. Total enzyme activity in the lumen contents and tissue extracts of midguts responds to SchistoFLRFamide

In the oviduct of Locusta migratoria, a FMRFamide-related peptide, PDVDHVFLRFamide (SchistoFLRFamide) acts as a neuromodulator, inhibiting spontaneous and induced muscle contraction. In this study, we have used N-terminal truncated peptides to show that PDVDHVFLRFamide has separated binding and activation regions.

The possible mode of action of an inhibitory neuropeptide SchistoFLRFamide (PDVDHVFLRFamide) on locust oviduct visceral muscle was studied by examining its ability to inhibit calcium ionophore A23187-, caffeine- or phorbol ester-induced oviduct contractions. A23187-induced muscle contractions included two components: one

SchistoFLRFamide (PDVDHVFLRF-NH2) is one of the major endogenous neuropeptides of the FMRFamide family found in the nervous system of the locust, Schistocerca gregaria. To gain insights into the potential physiological roles of this neuropeptide we have examined the distribution of

Octopamine was identified in the spermathecal tissue of Locusta migratoria using HPLC and immunohistochemical techniques. Octopamine-like immunoreactive unpaired median neurons were identified in the VIIth and VIIIth (terminal) abdominal ganglia and octopamine-like immunoreactive axons were present in the ventral ovipositor
