Biochem/physiol Actions
Visfatin has a role in mammalian nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) biosynthesis. Studies have shown that mice deficient in visfatin in the forebrain excitatory neurons show hyperactivity, diminished anxiety-like behaviors and impaired learning and memory. It has also been shown that visfatin stimulates glucose uptake and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation in mouse C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. Visfatin regulates inflammation and insulin sensitivity.
General description
The Visfatin Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) Kit is an in vitro quantitative assay for detecting Visfatin peptide based on the principle of Competitive Enzyme Immunoassay.
Visfatin, also known as nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (Nampt)/ pre-B Cell colony enhancing factor is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 7q22.3. The gene contains 11 exons encompassing 34.7kb. The encoded protein is an adipocytokine secreted by visceral fat.

Visfatin is an adipokine molecule acting as an essential coenzyme in multiple cellular redox reactions. The increased serum levels of Visfatin have been correlated with metabolic syndrome and endothelial homeostasis. In this study we investigate the possible relationship of Visfatin

Obesity increases the risk of hip osteoarthritis (OA). Recent studies have shown that adipokine extracellular nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (eNAMPT or visfatin) induces the production of IL-6 and matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) in chondrocytes, suggesting it may promote articular cartilage degradation. However, neither
