一般描述
In cell culture medium, it has been shown to have a biological half-life of approximately 19 minutes. It is a strong methylating agent that interacts with DNA in vitro to produce methylated purines. It can impact glucose metabolism because STZ is particularly toxic to the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas in mammals and is also an effective antibiotic against Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits the synthesis of DNA in microorganisms and mammalian cells by alkylation and cross-linking the strands of DNA and affects all stages of the mammalian cell cycle. STZ is considered mutagenic, carcinogenic, and possibly teratogenic in humans. It is cytotoxic to the neuroendocrine tumor cell lines that express the GLUT2 glucose transporter.

How should I store Product S0130, Streptozocin, upon receipt?
Streptozocin should be stored at -20 degrees C with desiccation. The desiccant is to prevent moisture uptake which can shorten shelf-life.
How do I store solutions of Product S0130, Streptozocin?
Aqueous solutions rapidly undergo mutarotation to an equilibrium mixture of alpha- and beta-anomers. Maximum solution stability is at pH 4, with stability decreasing rapidly at higher or lower pH. Freshly prepared solutions are clear and have a light straw color. On standing, they take on a yellow to brown color and effervesce, indicating decomposition. Solutions should be prepared just before use, since the product is unstable.
What is the half-life of Product S0130, Streptozocin?
Streptozocin has a reported half life of 15 to 30 minutes.
How can I make a solution of Product S0130, Streptozocin?
This product dissolves in water at 50 mg/mL to give a light yellow solution, from clear to slightly hazy. We recommend using a 20 mM citrate buffer at pH 4.5 for best solution stability.
Can Product S0130, Streptozocin, be used to induce diabetes? What concentration should be used?
We do not test Streptozocin, Product No. S0130 for biological activity. We recommend screening lots for biological activity. An intravenous injection of streptozocin into rats at a dose of 65 mg/kg body weight to induce diabetes has been reported by Burcelin R. et al. in Biochem. J., 291, 109-113 (1993).
