生化/生理作用
启动形成基于鞘磷脂的第二信使。激活MAPK（丝裂原活化蛋白激酶）和SAPKs（应激活化蛋白激酶）；由鞘磷脂生成神经酰胺。
细菌鞘磷脂酶在中性 pH 下具有活性。用于体外细胞培养时，它会水解质膜外叶上的鞘磷脂，并产生脂溶性神经酰胺。鞘磷脂酶是鞘磷脂酶/神经酰胺途径中的关键酶，与几种神经退行性疾病的发病机制有关。
