Gene Information
human ... AMPH(273)
General description
This gene encodes a protein associated with the cytoplasmic surface of synaptic vesicles. A subset of patients with stiff-man syndrome who were also affected by breast cancer are positive for autoantibodies against this protein. Alternate splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms. Additional splice variants have been described, but their full length sequences have not been determined. (provided by RefSeq)
Immunogen
AMPH (AAH34376.1, 1 a.a. ~ 695 a.a) full-length human protein.

Application
Anti-AMPH antibody produced in mouse is suitable for western blot.
Biochem/physiol Actions
AMPH (Amphiphysin) is involved in several pleotropic functions including endocytosis, actin function, and cell growth control. It plays an important role in synaptic vesicle endocytosis of axon terminals. Alteration in AMPH gene is associated with heritable disorders of the nervous system, endocrine tissues and male fertility. It also has a correlation with a rare neurologic autoimmune disease, paraneoplastic Stiff-Man syndrome. It is also involved in neoplastic growth cone dynamics.
