General description
G protein-coupled receptor 40 (GPR40) belongs to the G protein-coupled receptors. It is a 300 amino acid protein, that has seven characteristic transmembrane domains. GPR40 is also known as FFA1 (free fatty acid receptor 1). It is expressed in the β cell of the pancreas, spinal cord and brain. It is located on human chromosome 19q13.
Immunogen
Peptide with sequence CAARTQGGKSQK from the C Terminus of the protein sequence according to NP_005294.1.
Biochem/physiol Actions
G protein-coupled receptor 40 (GPR40) maintains insulin and glucose homeostasis. It plays an important role in the development of type 2 diabetes. GPR40/FFA1 signaling may participate in the regulation of endogenous pain control systems. It is considered as an anti-diabetic drug target.
