Thioredoxin reductase 2 (TRXR2) is mitochondrial protein-disulfide oxidoreductase, encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 22q11.21. TRXR2 is one of the mammalian isoforms of thioredoxin reductase (TrxR).

In humans, this enzyme stimulates the apoptosis in HeLa cells. Mutation in the gene might increase the risk of susceptibility to myocardial infarction (MI) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients.
