TNFA（肿瘤坏死因子 α）基因与固有和适应性免疫应答显著相关。现已确知TNFA基因的多态性导致急性运动轴索神经病（motor axonal neuropathy）。细胞活素释放和基因作用与上皮细胞、骨髓细胞、内皮细胞以及癌细胞有关。现已确知肿瘤细胞释放TNFA，在化疗时尤其如此。
