Biochem/physiol Actions

A-278637 is a selective opener of ATP-sensitive K (KATP) channels (EC50 = 102 nM) that blocks contraction of bladder smooth muscle in both in vivo and in vitro assays. A-278637 is 15-fold more selective than nifedipine for bladder compared other smooth muscle KATP channels, and displays reduced effects on mean arterial pressure compared to other channel openers.
