Biochem/physiol Actions
Thiopeptide antibiotic.
Nosiheptide is a thiopeptide antibiotic effective against Gram-positive bacteria with potent activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It is inactive against most Gram-negative bacteria. Nosiheptide inhibits bacterial ribosomal protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit blocking the binding region of elongation factor. It is not approved as an antibiotic for human use, but has found veterinary use in feed as an animal growth promoter.
