Phenoxodiol may be used to study immunomodulatory effects on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells in in vitro and in vivo assays.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phenoxodiol, an isoflavene, is a broad-spectrum anti-tumor agent that causes apoptosis via both intrinsic and extrinsic pathways. It is a pan-cancer drug that targets plasma membrane electron transport (PMET). It also acts as a potent sensitizer of most standard chemotoxic agents. Phenoxodiol inhibits tumor-specific NADH oxidase tNOX (ENOX2) and DNA topoisomerase II. It blocks phosphorylation and activation of several different pro-survival signaling proteins including sphingosine kinase and Akt. It is also known to inhibit tyrosine kinases and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis.

Previously, it was demonstrated that phenoxodiol induces apoptosis in epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) cells and that it is capable of sensitizing these cells to Fas-mediated apoptosis. The objectives of this study were to determine whether phenoxodiol can also act as
