General description

Fungicidal antibiotic; potent and competitive inhibitor of trehalase.
Validamycin A is a fungicidal antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus. Validamycin A is a potent and competitive inhibitor of Rhizoctonia solani trehalase. It is used to protect rice plants against sheath blight caused by R. solani. Validamycin A in combination with amphotericin B appears to be effective against Aspergillus flavus strains resistant to amphotericin B.
