双发射电位敏感探针，可用于测量线粒体膜电位。 在低膜电位时，JC-1是一个绿色荧光（λex 520nm）单体。在较高的电位下，JC-1形成带有红色荧光（λem 596nm）的“J-聚集体”，其表现出宽的激发和非常窄的发射光谱。JC-1的红色与绿色荧光的比率仅取决于膜电位，并且不受线粒体大小、形状或密度的影响。
