胰蛋白酶磷酸盐肉汤（TPB）由四种成分组成：胰蛋白酶（20g/L）；葡萄糖（2g/L）；氯化钠（5g/L）和磷酸二钠（2.5g/L），通常调节至pH 7.3。胰蛋白酶组分是一种蛋白胨（氨基酸和短肽的混合物），由牛奶蛋白酪蛋白的混合酶水解（胰酶）得到。这种水解产物提供基于氨基酸的营养物和生存因子的来源，支持难养微生物如布鲁氏菌、链球菌和奈瑟氏球菌以及真核细胞如昆虫和动物细胞的生长。葡萄糖提供了一种可发酵的碳水化合物，可被需要复杂营养的微生物利用。氯化钠维持渗透和离子平衡，磷酸二钠提供基本缓冲能力。
