应用
牛磺酸已用于以下情形：
- 作为心肌细胞解离溶液的组分
- 作为改性合成输卵管液(m-SOF)培养基的补充剂，用于培养假定的受精卵
- 作为低Ca2+溶液的组成部分，用于制备胶原酶B溶液，将菌落分解成单个细胞
- 在体外受精过程中评估与不同牛精子受精后对牛胚胎发育的影响
- 作为角膜类器官衍生培养基的组分
生化/生理作用
牛磺酸主要存在于视网膜和心脏，也存在于脑、肠、骨骼肌和肾中。牛磺酸可以调节细胞内钙浓度，防止缺血再灌注损伤并具有降血压特性。牛磺酸还在胆汁形成和脂肪消化中发挥作用。牛磺酸缺乏与焦虑、多动、癫痫和抑郁有关。
甘氨酸受体的非选择性内源激动剂。
甘氨酸受体的非选择性内源激动剂。在某些细胞中调节细胞凋亡的条件必需磺化氨基酸；在许多新陈代谢活动中起作用；是蛋氨酸和半胱氨酸的代谢产物。
