It is regarded as a critical cell survival modulator and may serve as a key regulator for cell proliferation and intracellular signaling. Downregulated expression of PRDX2 is observed in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and melanoma. However, it acts as an oncogene in the pathophysiology of various cancers including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), esophageal, cervical, gastric tumors, and many more.
