General description
Ascentis® Express 5 μm F5 is a high-speed, high-performance liquid chromatography column based on the highly efficient Fused-Core® particle design. The bonded, endcapped, dimethylpentafluorophenyl-propylsilane stationary phase of Ascentis Express 5 μm F5 provides a stable, reversed-phase packing with electron-deficient phenyl rings due to the presence of electronegative fluorines. In addition to forming π-π and mildly steric interactions, F5 phases also retain compounds by polar interactions. As a result of having both polar and non-polar character, F5 phases can show dual-mode retention behavior, sometimes producing a “U-shaped” retention as a function of acetonitrile content of the mobile phase, with retention increasing at both low and high concentrations of ACN (reversed-phase and HILIC retention modes). Ascentis Express 5 μm F5 can be used for basic, acidic, or neutral compounds with alternate selectivity from C18.
Application
- Liquid chromatographic determination of lumacaftor in the presence of ivacaftor and identification of five novel degradation products using high-performance liquid chromatography ion trap time-of-flight mass spectrometry.: This study employed the Ascentis® Express F5, 5 µm HPLC column to determine lumacaftor and its degradation products in the presence of ivacaftor. The application of high-performance liquid chromatography ion trap time-of-flight mass spectrometry provided high sensitivity and resolution, showcasing the column′s efficacy in complex sample matrices (Özcan et al., 2023).
- Stability-indicating LC-MS/MS and LC-DAD methods for robust determination of tasimelteon and high resolution mass spectrometric identification of a novel degradation product.: This research highlights the use of the Ascentis® Express F5, 5 µm HPLC column in developing stability-indicating methods for tasimelteon. The column′s performance in both LC-MS/MS and LC-DAD methods ensured accurate and reliable identification of degradation products (Özcan et al., 2020).
- Recent trends in ultra-fast HPLC: new generation superficially porous silica columns.: This review discusses advancements in HPLC technology, including the Ascentis® Express F5, 5 µm HPLC column. The article emphasizes the column′s capability in ultra-fast separations, providing enhanced efficiency and resolution in various analytical applications (Ali et al., 2012).
