14:10 - 14:50	Material-in-Cell-System Approaches as Enabler of High Energy Density Electrochemical Energy Storage	Professor Martin Winter Martin Winter has been researching in the field of electrochemical energy storage and conversion for more than 30 years. His focus is on the development of new materials, components and cell designs for lithium ion, lithium-metal batteries and alternative battery systems. Martin Winter currently holds a professorship for “Materials Science, Energy and Electrochemistry” at the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany. He is founder and scientific director of MEET Battery Research Center at Münster University and of Helmholtz-Institute Münster (HI MS) “Ionics in Energy Storage”, a division of Forschungszentrum Jülich.
14:50 - 15:30	Halide Perovskites in Photovoltaics	Professor Antonio Abate Antonio Abate is director of the department of “Novel Materials and interfaces for photovoltaic solar cells” at the Helmholtz-Centrum Berlin in Germany, Professor at the University of Naples Federico II in Italy and Visiting Professor at Fuzhou University in China. He is researching solar energy conversion with halide perovskites. Before his current position, Antonio led the solar cell research at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland as a team leader. He was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne within the group of Prof. Grätzel. He worked for four years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Prof. Snaith and the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Prof. Steiner. Antonio graduated summa cum laude from the University of Naples Federico II in 2006. He got his PhD summa cum laude at Politecnico di Milano in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Resnati and Prof. Metrangolo. Antonio collected more than 3 M€ personal (including 1.5 M€ ERC starting grant – FREENERGY) and 7 M€ joint research funding as an independent researcher. He is listed as the top 1% by citations in Web of Science (Highly Cited Researchers 2018, 2019, 2020), with more 35 000 citations (h-index 64) from over 130 peer-reviewed scientific publications. The World University Rankings indicated Antonio within the top 10 most influential scientists in the field of perovskite solar cells.

15:45 - 16:00	Merck Materials Science Innovations in Development – advancing Renewable Energy Research	Dr Adelina Braun Adelina Braun completed her doctorate in Materials Science at Saarland University, Germany with a thesis entitled, “Nanomaterials for Optoelectronic Applications”. She then gained professional experience at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre working on nanomaterials research projects. Adelina joined the Field Marketing team at Merck 7 years ago and handles the Materials Science portfolio for all of Western Europe. Her talk is a discussion of the recent achievements of our Research & Development in this area.
16:00 - 16:40	Pores for Dramatic Effect: Engineering porous materials for use in hydrogen storage	Professor Valeska Ting Prof Valeska Ting (CEng, FIOM3) is a Professor of Smart Nanomaterials in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Research Director for the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bristol. She leads a team of researchers developing nanoporous materials for sustainable applications including hydrogen storage and carbon capture, holds an EPSRC Research Fellowship in Energy and is a member of the Strategic Advisory Committee for the EPSRC-led cross-research council Energy theme. She was awarded the 2013 Institution of Chemical Engineers’ Sir Frederick Warner medal (international award presented every 2 years for work in sustainability), was the 2013 recipient of the UK's Parliamentary and Scientific Committee's SET for Britain Gold Medal for Engineering, as well as the Westminster Medal, and in 2020 was named one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering.
