General description

Gold(III) chloride is also known as auric chloride. It is a reddish-brown crystalline diamagnetic solid used in various fields such as catalysis, electroplating of gold, nanomaterial synthesis, and as reference material in spectroscopic techniques. It behaves as a Lewis acid and easily forms complexes.

Application

Gold(III) chloride can be used:
  • As a precursor to prepare gold nanoparticles.
  • As a dopant to fabricate graphene-protecting layers to enhance the stability and power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells.
  • As an anode interfacial modifier to enhance the built-in potential and interface resistance of polymer solar cells.
  • To fabricate flexible electrodes for organic light-emittingdiodes(OLEDs). Gold particles fill in graphene defects and reduce surfaceresistance resulting in enhanced carrier concentration.
