General description

Lithium methoxide solution, also known as lithium methylate, is an organolithium compound supplied as a colorless solution in methanol. It is highly soluble in polar solvents, making it suitable for solution-based applications. It serves as a strong base in organic reactions and is used in the production of polymers and specialty chemicals.

Application

Lithium methoxide can be used as
  • A lithium source in the sol-gel synthesis of a LiO–ZrO (LZO) coating for LiNi₀.₉Co₀.₀₅Mn₀.₀₅O (NCM) cathode material, enabling the formation of a uniform, amorphous LZO layer that enhances the cathode′s stability and performance in lithium-ion batteries.
  • A catalyst-activating additive to generate the active zirconium hydride species required for the selective hydrosilylation of alkenes using zirconocene dichloride.
  • A lithium precursor in a sol-gel synthesis method to produce high-purity γ-LiAlOceramic powders at relatively low calcination temperatures

Features and Benefits

Lithium methoxide solution in methanol is significant in several applications due to its strong basicity and reactivity. Its solubility in methanol allows for easy handling and mixing with other reactants, facilitating reactions in a liquid medium.
