General description
Lithium methoxide solution, also known as lithium methylate, is an organolithium compound supplied as a colorless solution in methanol. It is highly soluble in polar solvents, making it suitable for solution-based applications. It serves as a strong base in organic reactions and is used in the production of polymers and specialty chemicals.
Application
Lithium methoxide can be used as
- A lithium source in the sol-gel synthesis of a Li₂O–ZrO₂ (LZO) coating for LiNi₀.₉Co₀.₀₅Mn₀.₀₅O₂ (NCM) cathode material, enabling the formation of a uniform, amorphous LZO layer that enhances the cathode′s stability and performance in lithium-ion batteries.
- A catalyst-activating additive to generate the active zirconium hydride species required for the selective hydrosilylation of alkenes using zirconocene dichloride.
- A lithium precursor in a sol-gel synthesis method to produce high-purity γ-LiAlO₂ ceramic powders at relatively low calcination temperatures
