From pooled male/female gonad tissue of yearling rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). First cell line to be established from cold-blooded vertebrates. 8-fold difference in growth rate in temperature range 4-24°C. Susceptible to infectious pancreatic necrosis virus, Egtved virus and arboviruses (EEE, VEE).

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Passage using 0.25% trypsin below 24°C. Cells may be seeded as few as 3x10,000 cells/ml 5% CO2; 24°C. Fish cell lines detach easily during transit if the culture is very youn
