Mouse BALB/c testis, Leydig cell
Originated from primary cultures of Leydig cell enriched preparations from normal testes of 11-13 day old BALB/c nu/+ mice. Characteristics similar to primary cultures of Leydig cells. Responds to leuteinising hormone but not FSH. In the presence of LH the cells are capable of metabolising cholesterol. These cells are non-tumourigenic.

Preparation Note

Ham′s F12 + DMEM (1:1) + 2mM Glutamine + 5% Horse Serum (HS) + 2.5% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:5 to 1:200 i.e. seeding at 1x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37²C.
