The cell line HSG was originally thought to be established from a human submandibular gland from a 54 year old Japanese male. The cell line has since been found to be indistinguishable from HeLa by STR PCR DNA profiling. Therefore, the cell line should be considered as derived from HeLa. Ethnicity: Black.
