Application

Tetrodotoxin has been used to study its effects on microglial functions in rats². This toxin has also been used to inactivate lateral magnocellular nucleus of the nidopallium (LMAN) in juvenile zebra finch. This study reported that the toxin causes a decrease in sequence and acoustic variability which result in the production of a stereotyped song by the motor pathway³.

Preparation Note

The product is water soluble and stable at pH 4-5 if it is stored frozen. It is unstable in strong acid and alkaline solutions and is rapidly destroyed by boiling at pH 2 and below.
