General description

SUPELCOSIL LC-DB phases are specially deactivated for basic compounds. These columns provide less retention, better peak shape, and higher efficiency for organic bases than can be obtained on conventional reversed-phase columns.

    DB stands for "deactivated base", and refers to the base treatment of the packing in this column. Without this treatment, basic compounds will adsorb to active acidic silanol sites.  If starting a new method, Supelco suggests using a new-technology/pure-silica C8, such as the Ascentis C8.

    No, it is base treated, therefore acidic compounds will be adsorbed by the base treatment, resulting is peak tailing.
