General description
甘露醇盐琼脂是Chapman（1945）提出的选择性琼脂的改良版，用于分离和推断性鉴别金黄色葡萄球菌。该培养基有助于金黄色葡萄球菌的生长，但是其高盐含量（7.5%）抑制许多其它微生物的生长。与大多数其他葡萄球菌相反，凝固酶阳性金黄色葡萄球菌可以从甘露醇中形成酸。因此，它们建立了带有黄色区域的黄色菌落。 该培养基中的牛肉提取物、酪蛋白的胰酶消化物和动物组织提供碳、氮化合物、长链氨基酸、维生素、微量营养素和其他必需的生长因子。酚红指示剂有助于检测甘露醇发酵产生的酸。
