General description
甲酚红(Cresol Red)，又名邻甲酚红，属于酞和磺酞类染料。在pH 0.2-1.8之间，甲酚红由橙色变为黄色，在pH 7.0-8.8之间，由黄色变为紫色。在碱性溶液中，甲酚红为亲水性双阴离子。双阴离子形式为小分子，呈紫色，具有比黄色羟醌形式更大的共轭结构。
Application
甲酚红广泛用作pH指示剂，用于微生物培养基等的日常pH监测。此外，甲酚红也适合用作PCR反应体系的试剂组分。甲酚红还可用作DNA、RNA（琼脂糖）和蛋白（聚丙烯酰胺）凝胶电泳的示踪染料。
