应用

在生物学和医学中酚红通常用作 pH 指示剂。 它也可加入微生物培养基中，用于鉴定大肠杆菌菌株。这一物质的临床诊断应用包括胃和十二指肠溃疡的检查以及眼科泪液功能的评估。酚红也可用作示踪剂，用于评估回肠粘膜的通透性，并评估牙科中细菌通过牙根填充材料的渗漏。
酚红可用于制备酚红灌胃餐，以测定大鼠的胃排空情况。
适合用作pH 指示剂。
